This week’s feature is The Henderson Family! Read on to learn more about their family and why they make the Village of Spring Lake home.

Tell us a little about yourself! Village of Spring Lake Gingerbread House
Rich and I have been married for 5-1/2 years and together we own Rock Solid Granite Co in West Olive. We create custom countertops from granite and other natural stones and from quartz. Ethan is a senior at SLHS and works at Finn’s. He will be going to college in the fall and loves the weather and hopes to do something in a weather-related field in the future. We are the people behind the gingerbread house. We created it to honor our son Conner who died in 2018 of bone cancer. He loved to make people smile and after seeing the first year of Sparkle and all the families out making memories and smiling we thought it would be the best way to honor him.

How long have you lived in the Village?
3 Years.

What brought you to live in the Village?
We love the lakeshore and found the perfect house.

What are your hobbies?
Boating, Jeeping, and traveling. Kerri loves to read, Rich loves to fish, and Ethan loves gaming and learning about the weather.

What are your favorite Village businesses and why?
The Lilley Mansion– Patrik was my first friend in town and he was so welcoming. We love the B&B- it’s absolutely fantastic and so full of charm but Patrik’s heart is what makes it so special. Through Patrik, we met Justin from Grand Finale who I also adore. Justin’s bakery is fantastic and Ethan and I are addicted to those Saturday morning cinnamon rolls. And we can’t forget Finn and Roxie from Finn’s and Beefy’s. We love both restaurants and were so happy when Ethan got a job at Finn’s. We love the food but the way they treat their employees like family is something really special. We are really lucky to have such great businesses in our small little village but to have them run by such amazing people is extraordinary.

What is your favorite hidden gem in the Village?
We love Tanglefoot park. It’s been so great since it opened to see families spending time together at the splash park or fishing. It’s great to have a beautiful space for events and the farmers market and we love the fire pit. Definitely, our favorite is the docks where we can keep our boat. We love to be out on the water and having the launch and docks so close is awesome. I don’t think the fact that there are transient slips available is very well known. I hope people catch on to that and take advantage of them next season as well as trying out the kayak launch. I’m so glad they made it accessible to everyone.

Where is your favorite place to spend time in the Village?
Truthfully on the water or on our porch hanging out with friends. We are located right in the bike path so we get to see current and future friends going by all the time. The porch is always open for conversation and cocktails so come over and say hi anytime.

What do you like most about living in the Village of Spring Lake?
Being part of a smaller community feels great. I love the bike paths that connect us all together and the walkability to everything. I feel like most of the people here are very friendly and it’s easy to start up a conversation pretty much anywhere. I’ve met a lot of really nice people here and look forward to making new friends and connections.

Thank you again to the Hendersons for sharing a little bit about their Village of Spring Lake story with us!
