Village People of the Week - The Garrison Family

Welcome to our new weekly feature – Village People of the Week!

Each week we will feature a person, couple, or family that lives in the Village. If you are interested in being featured or if you want to nominate someone, click here!

This week’s feature is The Garrison Family including Jess, Skylar, and their children Rosemary & Wesner. Read on to learn more about them!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My wife and I are both lifelong residents of Spring Lake. We are also both second-generation Lakers, as our fathers graduated from Spring Lake High School in the 1970s and 80s. I am a real estate agent and manager at the Coldwell Banker Woodland Schmidt office in Grand Haven. We have our own real estate team under this umbrella (Jess Garrison Homes). Skylar manages and runs the day-to-day operations for our team, all while raising our two beautiful children, Rosemary (2 years) and Wesner (3 months). I serve on the boards for Reach for Recovery (a nonprofit drug and rehabilitation program), Village of Spring Lake Planning Commission, North Bank Community Fund, and Bluebird Cancer Retreat and I am a past president of the Spring Lake Rotary Club. Skylar also serves on the board on the Spring Lake District Library. As husband and wife, we co-chaired the capital campaign for the new (stunning) Tanglefoot Park, and are now co-chairs for the capital campaign for the Library Refresh Project. We love our village and want to help make all residents feel the same pride and love for this amazing place.

How long have you lived in the Village?
In this house – 2.5 years

What brought you to live in the Village?
Jess grew up off of Savidge Street in the village. Then, when we first moved in together back in 2015, we lived in a small house on Exchange Street, and we loved the walkability and liveliness of being right in town. We moved into our second house in the township, but it always felt like something was missing. In 2019, we came upon the perfect property to build a house on in the village of Spring Lake, and we were so excited to be back in town – especially with all of the new and exciting changes in the village.
What are your hobbies?
Golf, travel, and all things food related, but most importantly: building memories and sharing laughs with the people we love
What are your favorite Village businesses and why?
Grand Finale is our favorite bakeshop, Two Tony’s is our favorite dinner restaurant, Courtyard Cottage is our favorite shop, Lilley Mansion is our favorite event space, and Stan’s is our favorite bar / hang-out space – Skylar’s grandparents are the closest thing to Stan’s royalty
What is your favorite hidden gem in the Village?
Wok and Roll
Where is your favorite place to spend time in the Village?
Tanglefoot Park
What do you like most about living in the Village of Spring Lake?
We love the walkability.

Thanks again to the Garrisons for sharing a little about their Village story and their family!
